Using the Movie 'Tyrannosaur' to Develop My Narrative

How can you enrich your narrative?
After watching the movie, Tyrannosaur, I think I can enrich my narrative by following a linear structure as it is easier for the audience to follow and also avoids confusion. I can also enrich my narrative by building it up slowly when it comes to the climax in order to create tension and also makes the audience feel captivated and involved.

What elements can you add to bring your characters alive?
The characters in the movie tend to be very emotional and have a good relationship between each other which makes the storyline appear to be more believable and realistic. They also all have background stories that allow the audience to empathise with the characters as they are able to understand the situation that they came from. Another element I can add that was included in the movie is the use of villains who end up turning good.

How will you actively seek to serve your chosen audience?
I will seek to serve my chosen audience by making sure that the plot and storyline relate clearly to them, this can be done through the characters, for example making sure that they follow the users and gratification theory so that the audience would keep up to date with the series.

Production of Dracula's Sons (Merchandise)

I chose to use hoodies as a part of my merchandise for my TV series as typically my target audience are seen wearing hoodies. Baring this in mind I decided to use the hoodies as I know I could rely on my audience when it comes to purchasing this item. I am aiming for the hoodie to be done in different colours but for now I have done it in black and red. The black connoting the evil within the show and the red obviously being the blood. I also wanted to bring an element of youth within the hoodie also. I did this by writing 'Malville University' across the centre of the hoodie, the font that I had chosen also replicates the typical 'College' font used in most universities/colleges. I am aiming for my audience to buy a series of these hoodies however I will start by making the Malville University hoodies limited edition which would test out whether people would like the hoodies or not.

Teen Horror Series Proposal: Dracula's Son's

NAME: Dracula’s Sons
Genre: Horror/ Drama/ Supernatural/ Romance/Action

What is it about?
A young girl named April from Atlanta moves to a small town in America called Malville (The name Malville was chosen because Mal translates to evil in Spanish, which is what runs through the town.) to start her first year at college. As she got the placement for the college late there are no dorms available so she signed up to rent a room in the famous Darke Brothers House. The Darke brothers (Alec and Draco) are famously known for renting this room every semester but every person who rents that room out does not make it to the end of the semester. Because April is new and does not believe in the rumors that she has heard throughout the college she decided to go ahead and rent the room anyway.

The reason behind this is because the two brothers are vampires, one who does not go to the College but does night shifts at the town’s hospital, as he is much older. The other brother does attend College and is currently dating a witch who made him a dawn ring so he was able to go out during the day. Within the series we are able to see a relationship develop between the evil brother Draco and the young girl despite the fact that he is in a committed relationship this then leads to havoc especially when his witch girlfriend Simone finds out. The other brother Alec is a lot less quieter yet almost sinister, at the first impression the audience believe that he is quite a shy and ‘nerdy’ character however he is not, he has many secrets to hide which are portrayed in different ways at the end of each episode. The most prominent one is that the hospital he works at has an increasing number of deaths which is why patients do not wish to attend it so often and this is because of Alec’s obsession, not with the drinking of their blood necessarily but with torture.

Themes
Within the series we are able to see elements of Family, Friendship, Love, Jealousy, Death, Betrayal and Fear.

Why have I chosen to do this?
I chose vampires as it clearly relates to my audience (which is teenagers between the ages of 15-19). Shows like Vampire Diaries and movies like Twilight seem to convey that teenagers are more inclined to watch shows about young adult vampires as it will keep them intrigued with the storyline and stay up to date with the show. What however makes my show different to The Vampire Diaries is that I do not follow the point of view of one main character but instead try to focus on all different types of characters. I also do not want to follow the typical route of “Romance” to be the main storyline. Instead I want to add an element of action for example in ‘The Walking dead’ to grasp a wider audience as you are able to see the killing, the quest for freedom etc.
I am trying to achieve this by making the humans that live in Malville fight against the vampires and also along the series creating a strong feud against them.

FRONT COVER FOR INSPIRE MAGAZINE

At the top of our magazine I have put the masthead “Inspire”. We chose this name because the aim of the magazine was to ‘inspire’ different youths. The colours of the masthead follow the magazines colour scheme, which was mainly relating to burgundy, as this colour is quite well liked within the young people community. I think what went well was the sell lines on the front cover of the magazine as they directly related to what was within the magazine. I also think that the main image was very successful, although in the beginning when printing out the first copy the image came out quite pixelated I went back and uploaded the image again to see if that would better the quality and it did.
I made this front cover through using the software PhotoShop, I chose to use this as I figured it would be easier to PhotoShop the background in attempt to make it white. All images taken for the front cover were done originally and then uploaded onto PhotoShop and then edited on their. I also chose to rotate the image and flip it upside down as it would create quite a quirky and different style which reflects what the magazine is about.

Film Review - Bad Neighbours

Seriously. How bad are your neighbours?

Delicious Dave Franco and America’s heart throb Zac Efron co-star in the new and greatly fussed about comedy: Bad Neighbours. Kelly and Mat who are played by the famous Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne move into what they thought would be a wholesome and peaceful neighbourhood, determined to secure a great place to raise their new-born child however…
They were wrong.
When frat boys Teddy, Pete and the whole fraternity move in across the street all hell breaks loose. Not at first of course. At first glance the couple were okay about the whole situation; they even offered them weed as a sign of peace. But when the parties started and the noise levels went up, so did the couples patience. Police officers were called, pranks were pulled, sexual remarks were made and tears were shed (Yes on both sides) and that was just about the perfect recipe for a highly rated comedy.
The greatest achievement Bad Neighbours had to me personally was the ability to make a very easy and not that great storyline one of the most memorable and exceptionally hilarious movies I’ve ever seen and believe me, I don’t laugh that often. It definitely beat most “high school/ college” based movies like Project X and certain American Pie movies by a mile.

Even though it did have its normal “the good prevails over evil ending” It is definitely a one to watch, besides do I even have to mention how beautiful the two protagonists were? (Zac and Dave) If they were my neighbours Bad Neighbours would've been a sequel.

Ralph Review

RALPH The short film focuses on a young boy from London named Ralph. Ralph takes a trip to Paris with no knowledge of the language and is set on finding his accommodation and what to do in the city based on a phone number, which later on turns out to be missing a digit. Ralph uses different algorithms as a way of finding this extra digit, for example writing out the number given multiple times and adding extra numbers at the end. However his results came up short. It came to the point where Ralph had decided to search for a phone card as an alternative. He visited a local bar/restaurant and asked if they sold phone cards, however the owner was unable to provide him with anything unless he bought something to eat. Ralph agrees and his food is delivered to him, but not before he trips up the waitress whom I assume is the daughter of the owner of the bar/restaurant. Ralph apologises and leaves the restaurant with a large tip for the waitress and goes back to dialling the wrong number multiple times, growing angrier with each dial. The waitress notices and speaks to Ralph; he then explains that he is here to see a woman he cares deeply about, however Clare does not feel the same way. The waitress offers to take Ralph to see the city but just as she does Clare comes out to greet Ralph. He later realises that she has found somebody new in Paris and decides to leave Clare and go off with the waitress, who has left her father at the restaurant after getting into a heated argument about Ralph. It is clear from watching this that the Genre is a Romance Drama; this is because it focuses on Ralphs love for Clare but also his new infatuation for the waitress at the bar/restaurant. It is also a Drama as we are able to see the tension and conflict within the relationship of the waitress and her father, but also the Drama between Ralph and Clare. The movie Ralph uses extreme close ups on Ralphs face whilst he is dialling Clare’s number. This is used to display Ralph’s expression so the audience is able to see and understand the frustration that Ralph is feeling, it also creates tension as we do not actually hear any dialogue at this point in time but by seeing his face we are able to understand Ralph’s desperation. The movie also uses a long shot when we first see Ralph; this is done to let us see Ralph’s appearance and also gives information, just by including everything in the frame we are able to see the situation, before Ralph even spoke the audience could tell he was from London based on his clothing and that he was foreign by the large suitcase he held. Ralph used more Digetic sound than Non-digetic sound, this for example would be the noise of the cars passing by and the sound the phone makes as he dials the numbers. This is done as a way of displaying reality, it is everyday noises that are being recognised which makes the movie seem much more realistic and also involves the audience as they feel as though they are right there because of the sounds that they recognise.

THOUGHTS ON LOVE DOES GO ON TREES

For me the short coming of age film love does go on trees gave a good insight on the ways that some boys may think of females as young teenagers and also displayed the contrast between the ways females are represented in the media and how they are treated but also the way females are seen in reality. From watching the short movie it was clear that here the women in the media are seen as objects, something to lust an desire over however the women in reality are quite the opposite. They are seen as something much more sacred and in a sense more innocent. I also liked the actual meaning behind the name of the movie, there are different ways for you to depict it but the way I see it is that the tree part of the title relates to the pornographic magazines (trees are made up of paper), the fact that love does not go on trees shows that love cannot be found in those magazines or in anything that relates to those, this in my opinion gets the message and true moral behind the movie out very clear.

THOUGHTS ON TELLING LIES

What I liked about the short movie telling lies was how clever it was: instead of just using actual faces to represent different characters it was creative and used colours to identify them instead. I also think it was quite interesting how the title was very simple yet represented the whole movie. Telling lies also interestingly showed a distinct contrast between the truths and the lie, it did this by displaying the lies in white to represent the term "white lie" "and also when truths were said they were shown in different colours. However at certain points the dialogue that was said would be changed when shown on screen, displaying what the character actually wanted to say instead of what they did say.

EVALUATION OF 60 SEC CHALLENGE

My strengths in this task was the actual content, I think I gave a decent as well as detailed amount of information about me. I do however also believe that I could've done something a lot more creative to make it seem much more interesting.
